Name: Jan
DOB: 06/25
POB: Baltimore, Md
Location: Salisbury, Md
Occupation: Computer Technician, Student
Bio: I live in a small-town on the east coast. I work with computers and people, a dangerous combination, I assure you. I smoke a pack a day for that exact reason.
My greatest fear isn't dying; it's growing old. Dying I can deal with, but being completely helpless is another thing altogether. I guess you could say I'm passionately independent to a fault. I want to do things on my own, by my own rules, but it alienates everyone and casues much more headache than good.
I like cleaning, contrary to what most my age feel. It's Zen, in a way, giving your physical self something to do while letting your mind drift off as you go through the routine.
I used to really like working with computers. Now that I've been working with them 'professionally', I'm quickly loosing that enthusiasm which defined my adolecent years and my 'uber-geek-ness'. This makes me sad, because I don't really know anything else.
MY GEEKDOM:
Starwars, first and foremost. My father introduced me to it when I was a kid and would hand me EU books on car rides to shut me up. I blame and thank him.
Horatio Hornblower, Aubrey, Maturin, Richard Bolitho (nautical fiction in general): anyone who knows me to any extent will know of my love of all things nautical and shipworthy (including sailors). My ambitions are to one day work on a boat (the Kalmar Nycel to be precise, as they offer a free training course)
Lord of the Rings I wil say this, and be bluntly honest: I was not a huge fan of Tolkien before the movies came out. I had read the books, and appreciated them, but as they were a chore to read and I had no intention of re-reading them, I didn't consider myself a 'fan' (although I had read the simarilion, the true sign of LOTR geekdom).
Linux: Not as much as an operating system, due to the lack of support for most flavors, but the open-source aspect of it.
Mac: I purchased a Macintosh system a couple months ago and have completely fallen in love with it. Of course a week after I buy a computer with Mac osX Panther on it, than they come out with 'tiger'....
